It has now been close to two months since I started my little backlinking experiment on Squidoo. As you recall, I started out with three lenses and added a fourth after someone offered to run a new lens through GSA Indexer for me. If you missed the previous updates, here are the links:
So, you might be wondering if anything has changed since the last update….
Curiously, all four of the lenses fell out of the top 100 in Google for the target keywords about a week or so ago. I track other lenses as well and did not see the same drop. So, I can only assume this drop is because I am targeting a brand and the lenses got caught up in a Google update. But honestly, I have no idea what the reason for the SERPs drop is because I have just been letting the pages age. There was no change in Bing or Yahoo.
The lenses have just started to recover their rankings in the last day or two. And by recover, I mean a low 90’s ranking. Leading the pack is still the Backlinks Indexer lens.
The rankings drop is a little bit of a downer as the lenses actually made their first sales a few days after the last update. That means that it took around a month for the sales to start. Of course, with the SERPS drop, the sales from the lenses have stopped.
Last time, I mentioned that I was going to make two new lenses and do a comparison of Backlinks Indexer vs. Scoop.it. Well…..I haven’t actually done that yet. But, it is still on my to-do list. Look for an update on that in the next week or so.
I’ll continue to watch these four lenses, but I’m honestly not expecting much change. So far, it seems like GSA Indexer is the big loser here. And I likely won’t test it ever again.
